Fact: Many smokers do not believe that littering their cigarette butts has an environmental impact or is inappropriate behavior.

Crazy as that sounds, ever since the early days of film where the tough talking heroes (John Wayne, James Dean, etc) glibly flicked their butts out the window on the sidewalk in the bar - made it look cool - so naturally like sheep all the rest of us decided that a cigarette butt was not a form of litter. Think about it, paper/plastic not considered trash, guess it's OK to toss that coffee cup from Starbucks or that used tampon or all those burger wrappers or or or! - jeez how stupid can the human race be - oh right, sheep are pretty damn stupid - and the aforementioned items are commonly seen on the road side, street corner, or floating on a summer breeze while you sit on the park bench feeding the pigeons (just make sure to toss the feed bag into the trash can).

Knowledge is always a good thing, but common sense will tell you that dumping your ash tray at the stop light is FUCKING LITTERING! Let's all try to be a bit smarter about it.

Fact: Littered cigarette filters contain toxic chemicals that leak into the air and water.
Fact: Over half of smokers said they would change their behavior if they were more aware of the issues and their potential environmental impact.
Fact: Over 80% of smokers said they would bin their butts if suitable bins were available (three key areas for more bins were alongside every ordinary litterbin, at entrances to large city buildings and at bus stops).
Fact: Many smokers blame their littering behavior on a lack of well-placed bins for cigarette butts.
Fact: Many smokers do not believe that littering their cigarette butts has an environmental impact or is inappropriate behavior.
